This segment provides accommodations to meet the needs of every kind of traveler - hotels, motels, resorts, casinos, bed-and-breakfast inns and boarding houses all cater to unique customers with specific needs.
Companies in this segment own properties in big cities (with rooftop swimming pools), exotic island destinations, small towns and remote retreats... with reasonable prices and lots of locations or very expensive, one-of-a-kind destinations. There are close to 50,000 hotel properties in the U.S. with 15 rooms or more, offering you opportunities in cities of all sizes all over the country.
The job opportunities are tremendous. While you might be most familiar with the staff at the front desk, there is a whole world behind the scenes. The laundry, room service, maintenance, construction & renovation, interior design and architecture, special events, sales and marketing, systems, finance... the great number of jobs that actually keep these establishments running smoothly. Many of these areas offer entry level jobs and many lead to managerial positions.
This is an area of the industry where many of the top leaders came up through the ranks. It is also an industry that attracts entrepreneurs with vision, passion and commitment.
