The Multicultural Foodservice and Hospitality Alliance is one of the founding sponsors of whatsnext4me.com. MFHA's Showcase of the Stars™ is a dynamic "up front and personal" program that brings diverse leaders of the hospitality and food service Industry together with American teens for informational and motivational exchanges in cities across the country. Showcase of the Stars' focus on "real people in real jobs" has been perpetuated in the design of whatsnext4me.com.
The roots of MFHA's award winning Showcase of the Stars™ began with the vision of Ernie Royal, the National Restaurant Association's first African-American director. Mr. Royal imagined traveling nationwide to tell young people of color about career opportunities within the Industry.
Starting in 1996, Gerry Fernandez, president and founder of MFHA, endeavored to make this vision a reality by bringing diverse professionals to schools nationwide to share their successes and insights with students. The first Showcase event was held in Chicago in November 2000. Since then, 12 additional Showcases have been conducted in various cities across the country, reaching a total of nearly 4,000 students and 300 educators from 126 different schools.
Today, in 2006, MFHA Showcase of the Stars™ has evolved into a national event with premier sponsorship and funding from the Coca-Cola Company and Cargill, Inc. The 2006 national tour includes Orlando, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Miami, New Orleans/Baton Rouge, Dallas, Washington D.C., and Detroit. .
